Sedation dentistry allows us to provide dental treatment to patients who may otherwise avoid it due to fear or anxiety when it comes to the dentist.
We know that many patients have had a negative experience in the past or simply don’t like having dental treatment. As a result, they can feel nervous and stressed about dentistry.
At Spring Grove Dental, we provide sedation dentistry solutions to help you have a relaxed and peaceful experience while you receive the dental care you need to stay healthy.
Patients who may benefit from sedation dentistry include:
- Fearful patients
- Patients with a strong gag reflex
- Patients who have difficulty getting numb
- Patients suffering from physical challenges
Mild Sedation with Nitrous Oxide Sedation
For patients who just need to take the edge off of their anxiety, we offer nitrous oxide sedation. Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is our mildest form of sedation.
We administer nitrous oxide through a small nose mask and blend it with oxygen. We can control your sedation level throughout your treatment to make sure you remain completely relaxed. Nitrous oxide enters and leaves your system quickly, so you will not need someone to drive you home after treatment.
Oral Sedation Dentistry in Our Office
If you suffer from moderate to severe dental anxiety, oral conscious sedation may be appropriate to alleviate the stress associated with your dental procedure. To accomplish a deeper level of sedation, we prescribe medication for you to take in our office on the day of your appointment.
You will feel very relaxed during your appointment. Some patients experience a dream-like state. Oral sedation makes the time feel like it flies by, and you will have little to no memory of your treatment. Many patients tell us this their favorite part about sedation dentistry!
The effects of oral sedation are long lasting, so you will need to have someone take you home from your appointment and stay with you for the rest of the day. The next day, if you are feeling up to it, you will be able to resume your normal activities.
In-Office IV Sedation
For patients with physical conditions, such as Parkinson’s disease, or other conditions that make it difficult for you to remain still enough for treatment, in-office IV sedation will make treatment possible and comfortable. Treatment is administered by an anesthesiologist and monitored constantly for your safety and comfort.
