How do you help patients who are afraid of the dentist?

Dental anxiety is no laughing matter. It can cause patients to avoid their regular dental care and lead to serious conditions that require treatment – often on an emergency basis.

At Spring Grove Dental, we do our best to provide our patients with the type of compassionate care that helps them relax. We are gentle and each member of our team quickly gains the trust of our patients through their kindness.

For some patients, though, dental fear goes so deep that they need a little help relaxing so they can get the care they need.

We offer three types of sedation dentistry in our office:

Nitrous oxide sedation – Nitrous oxide, or "laughing gas," is mild and extremely safe for most patients. The effects quickly wear off after treatment, and you will be able to go about your normal activities. Nitrous oxide feels mild and takes the edge of for our nervous patients. We can even use it on kids.

Oral sedation dentistry – If you want something that helps you through longer treatment times or provides a higher level of relaxation, we can discuss oral sedation. This prescription medication helps you achieve a relaxed state. It is longer lasting than nitrous oxide and reduces the memory you have of your dental appointment. Oral sedation is a great option for patients who have difficulty getting numb or a strong gag reflex.

IV Sedation – IV sedation delivers the strongest level of sedation available at our Richmond, IN dental office. A licensed anesthesiologist will administer your sedative through an IV and monitor you throughout your appointment to ensure safety.
